For those who know what manufacturing is like today, there’s no doubt that we’re enjoying a bona fide renaissance.

As recently as 2011, the Great Lakes region, along with the rest of the country, had lost a good many manufacturing jobs. Students and graduates just entering the workforce had an unfavorable impression of manufacturing careers as dirty, uncomfortable and undesirable work. In addition, many manufacturing employers were out of touch with what younger workers want from their careers. The United States continued to be a country that’s very good at innovation and discovery, but had grown far too accustomed to shipping what it needed from overseas.
