What is Smart Manufacturing?

Smart manufacturing covers a broad range of manufacturing methodologies that leverage computer-integrated manufacturing, new levels of automation and adaptability (digital) for response to rapid design changes, digital information technology, and a more flexible technical workforce.

Demand for customized products and shoring up supply chain vulnerabilities are quickly driving global manufacturers to technologies that create flexibility, speed and touch button control from engineering to production to distribution. Only a digital platform with applications and engineering data available in the cloud can generate advantages in this new manufacturing paradigm, and California can and must lead the way.

Smart manufacturing is more than a buzzword. It’s a new methodology widely used today.
